The Birth of Summerwind Farm - Living a Dream

My story is not unique to other horse lovers. I was raised on a farm where I enjoyed the company of horses, but when I was old enough to leave home and move to the city I did, leaving the farm life behind. My childhood with horses became a part of my past as I married, raised my family and started a career.

Then in 1992 my employer enrolled me in a self-awareness weekend workshop in which the most amazing thing happened. I re-discovered my childhood horse, Dolly, and through my memories of her I connected once again to the lifestyle I had denied for so many years. Ron and Emily
Summerwind Farm is an Arabian Horse America "Discovery Farm".

Located 20 miles east of Nashville, Tennessee, Summerwind Farm is owned and operated by Ron and Emily Bridges.

"Our purpose is to raise pure-bred and half-Arabian horses, with focus on breeding and foal management. We are a small operation and take pride in knowing that our foals are given one-on-one attention from birth."

A North Carolina native, Emily was involved with horses as a child, but didn't start riding again until 1992. In 1996 she and Ron moved to Tennessee with her two Arabian horses. With this move came a start-up horsekeeping operation, including a Bridges family-built barn. This barn was built around an existing pole shed. As Emily's desire for more horses grew, Ron again enlisted his family's help and built an addition to the barn.

Life on the farm is always exciting, where in addition to the beautiful Arabian and half-Arabian horses Ron and Emily raise, three dogs and nine cats call the farm home. The local animal shelters call Summerwind Farm a great place for dogs and cats to live.

"We've learned a lot by the trial and error method and have experienced many pitfalls along the way. But we have put our hearts and souls into this venture, and we really are living the dream!"
